Smithfield Hometown Original Sausage
Your sausage ships frozen with dry ice in a recyclable Styrofoam cooler and may arrive frozen or partially thawed. Please refrigerate and use within 5 days or re-freeze upon receipt. If frozen, please thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Sausage may be refrigerated for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months, and still maintain maximum flavor. Skillet Method – Slice thawed sausage roll into 16 thin patties. Place in a skillet. Cook over medium heat, turning to brown evenly, 13 to 18 minutes. Sausage isn't just for breakfast! Delicious for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or your favorite recipe.
Gravy
In a large saucepan over medium high heat, brown sausage then add ½ stick butter. Lower heat to medium, then add Gravy Mix. Stir to combine and cook, still stirring, for 2 minutes. Slowly whisk in 4 cups warm milk and simmer on medium for 5 minutes, giving the gravy a stir every minute. Remove from heat once the gravy is the desired consistency – it will thicken a little more as it cools.
Biscuits
Preheat oven to 450°F. Add 2 ice cubes to the milk. Dump milk into a bowl. Add butter and in a food processor, by hand or with pastry blender, mix together until crumbly. Remove ice cubes from milk, then add cold milk to dough stirring together until combined and formed into a ball. Place ball on a well floured surface and roll out 1 inch thick. Cut dough into rounds with biscuit cutter or pat dough out 1 inch thick then cut into squares. Place biscuits on ungreased cookie sheet and bake in center of oven for 12 minutes. Remove form oven, brush tops of biscuits with the melted butter and bake for 1 to 2 additional minutes until golden brown.
Split Biscuits in half and top with Creamy Sausage Gravy. Enjoy!
